Kyle Busch’s Legendary Championship Car Is Returning to the Spotlight — NASCAR Hall of Fame Announces New Exhibit

NASCAR fans are getting another chance to see a piece of Kyle Busch’s legendary career.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame has announced a new limited-time exhibit honoring Busch, featuring one of the most important race cars of his career.

The exhibit, titled “Kyle Busch: Honoring A Legacy,” is scheduled to open October 9, 2026, at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina.

And the centerpiece is a car that helped change Busch’s career forever.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP-WINNING CAR

The NASCAR Hall of Fame says the exhibit will feature the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry that Kyle Busch drove to his first NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2015.

That championship came after one of the most remarkable comeback seasons in NASCAR history.

Busch missed 11 races in 2015 after suffering serious leg injuries in a crash at Daytona International Speedway.

He eventually returned to competition and went on an incredible run during the second half of the season.

Busch won five races after returning and qualified for the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

He then won the season finale and captured his first Cup Series championship.

Now, that championship-winning car is being placed in a special exhibit dedicated to his legacy.

WHY THIS CAR MATTERS

The 2015 season is one of the defining chapters of Busch’s career.

Before the season began, Busch was already established as one of NASCAR’s top drivers.

But the Daytona crash dramatically changed the year.

After missing several races, Busch returned and immediately began fighting his way back into championship contention.

His victory at Sonoma Raceway was particularly important because it helped put him back into the playoff picture.

He went on to win at Kentucky, Loudon, Martinsville and Phoenix before winning the championship at Homestead.

The championship was the first Cup title of his career.

BUSCH’S LEGACY GOES FAR BEYOND ONE CAR

Kyle Busch’s career eventually became one of the most statistically successful in NASCAR history.

According to NASCAR, Busch finished his career with 234 victories across NASCAR’s three national series — the most in history.

He won 63 Cup Series races and captured two NASCAR Cup Series championships.

His second Cup championship came in 2019.

Busch also became closely associated with the No. 18 during his long tenure with Joe Gibbs Racing.

Later, after moving to Richard Childress Racing, he raced the No. 8 Chevrolet.

THE NO. 8 HAS NOW BEEN SHELVED

Busch’s final NASCAR Cup Series team was Richard Childress Racing.

He joined RCR in 2023 and drove the No. 8 Chevrolet.

After Busch died unexpectedly on May 21, 2026, RCR announced that it would stop using the No. 8 for its Cup Series entry.

The team instead moved the entry to No. 33.

Richard Childress has said the No. 8 will be reserved for Busch’s son, Brexton, should he eventually want to use the number in NASCAR’s top series.

That decision has added another emotional layer to the history of Busch’s famous number.

A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP CAR

The NASCAR Hall of Fame exhibit provides fans with an opportunity to see one of Busch’s most important race cars outside of a racing environment.

The Hall of Fame says the exhibit will also include stories about Busch’s career and his role in developing future NASCAR drivers through Kyle Busch Motorsports.

That part of his legacy is significant.

Busch’s Truck Series organization helped develop a number of drivers who went on to compete at NASCAR’s highest levels.

THE EXHIBIT OPENS OCTOBER 9

The timing of the exhibit is also significant.

October 9 is the same day NASCAR has scheduled a public Celebration of Life for Busch at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The memorial will take place after the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.

The Hall of Fame exhibit will give fans another opportunity to remember Busch’s career during a week when the NASCAR community is expected to gather in Charlotte.

WHAT ABOUT THE VIRAL VIDEO?

A social-media video circulating online describes NASCAR fans as emotional while a “legendary car” is supposedly being pulled out for the “very last time.”

The footage appears to show racing equipment and personnel at a NASCAR facility.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding that particular recording have not been independently established.

It is therefore safer not to claim that the footage definitively shows Kyle Busch’s championship car being removed for the final time.

What can be independently confirmed is that the NASCAR Hall of Fame is preparing a new Kyle Busch exhibit featuring his 2015 championship-winning No. 18 Toyota.

That is a major development in its own right.

A CAREER THAT WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN

Kyle Busch’s career ended suddenly in 2026, but his record remains firmly embedded in NASCAR history.

Two Cup Series championships.

63 Cup Series victories.

234 wins across NASCAR’s three national series.

And a championship season in 2015 that included one of the sport’s most memorable comebacks.

Now one of the cars from that championship season will take its place in a special exhibit honoring the driver.

For NASCAR fans, it is another opportunity to see a physical piece of Busch’s racing history — and remember the career behind it.

“Kyle Busch: Honoring A Legacy” is scheduled to open October 9 at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte.
