As the sole liberal voice on Fox News\u2019 The Five<\/em><\/a>, Jessica Tarlov<\/a> is used to facing criticism from the right, including from the President of the United States himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Democratic strategist opened up about how she handles attacks from Donald Trump<\/a> in a new interview with The Guardian<\/a>. Tarlov, who recently signed a new deal with Fox News, was asked whether Trump\u2019s criticisms ever make her fear for her position at the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo. I mean, I think that [Fox News chief executive] Suzanne Scott and the entire leadership team know exactly who I am, and that they want me to keep doing what I\u2019m doing,\u201d Tarlov said. \u201cAnd if it aggravates [Trump] \u2013 he would just get annoyed at somebody else anyway. If he\u2019s in a bad mood, he\u2019s in a bad mood.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tarlov, who released her new book, I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends<\/em>, on Tuesday (September 15), explained how she doesn\u2019t think Trump himself believes that his calls for Fox to fire her will actually lead to anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never had a conversation with him, but the idea of posting \u2018Dear Fox executives, fire Jessica Tarlov\u2019 or calling into The Five<\/em> and saying the show would be better without her, I don\u2019t think he thinks that means that I\u2019m going to get fired from my job,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tarlov said that Fox News doesn\u2019t take the bait when it comes to Trump insulting its hosts and reporters. \u201cThere\u2019s no reason to, and honestly it just makes it worse,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for whether any of her Fox News colleagues have ever gone to bat for her when speaking with Trump, Tarlov revealed that former The Five<\/em> cohost Jeanine Pirro<\/a> \u201chad said something to him about, like, \u2018She\u2019s great.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut the general feeling is that if you feed the beast, it gets worse, and that it is going to be probably worse for me if somebody goes to the mat about it,\u201d she continued. \u201cI know who I am. I know what my relationship is like with them. I know what their relationships with him are like as well, and I don\u2019t need anybody\u2019s help that way. My skin is thick enough for this hand that I\u2019ve been dealt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While some viewers, including Trump, might not be fans of Tarlov\u2019s presence on the network, she said those she\u2019s met in public have always spoken positively about her contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I meet fans of The Five out in the wild, they love the dynamic and the personal relationships, especially with Jesse [Watters]<\/a> and Greg [Gutfeld]<\/a>,\u201d she explained. \u201cWith Jesse, it\u2019s very sibling-y, and they like the pointed back-and-forth and how we have relationships, frankly, that mirror what their real lives look like. I think it\u2019s soothing in that way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tarlov added, \u201cAnd a lot of cable news doesn\u2019t have that interplay\u2026 Obviously I\u2019m outnumbered, but I\u2019m the genuine article, and they\u2019re the genuine article, and I think people like that.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
