The Tompkins County District Attorney&#8217;s Office said the investigation did not provide sufficient evidence to support criminal charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That does not mean that the allegations in the civil lawsuit have been proven false. A civil lawsuit and a criminal prosecution are separate legal matters, and the allegations remain contested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At least one defendant&#8217;s attorney has denied the allegations against his client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuit seeks damages from Cornell, fraternity organizations and other defendants and raises questions about how the university and Greek organizations handled the allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case has attracted renewed attention because the lawsuit was filed nearly two years after the alleged October 2024 incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The viral video and social-media posts surrounding the story can make it appear as though seven students were recently expelled after being found responsible for the alleged conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is not an accurate description of what has been established publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is documented is that seven men were named as defendants in a civil lawsuit alleging drugging and sexual assault, that Cornell investigated the allegations, that the university has not publicly disclosed individual disciplinary outcomes, and that no criminal charges were filed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The civil case is ongoing, and the allegations have not been adjudicated in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the lawsuit proceeds, additional court filings could provide more information about the allegations, the university&#8217;s investigation and the disciplinary actions taken.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A viral post circulating online claims that seven Cornell University students were expelled after allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a female student.
